Does anyone have any good ideas for a children's story?

I'd like to write a children's story, but everything seems so overdone. Anyone have any good ideas? Doesn't matter the age range, I could adapt the writing style for a younger or older audience.

Does anyone have any good ideas for a children's story?
Think of the subjects kids like -

Friends

Cats

Horses

Dragons

Magic

Sport

Super powers

Dressing up

Monsters

Pick a subject, and match it to an age-range, and then come up with a plot. Remember - some things are overdone because they are perennially popular. Others, though popular with kids, are disliked by some editors (these include circuses, ghosts, witches, dinosaurs etc).

You could try lesser-considered subjects such as -

Elephants

Slaves

balloons

lizards
Reply:Heres a idea for a younger group (4/5 or under). A kitten (named somethig like Gorgie or Author) gets lost, and has to rely on woodland creatures to help it find it's way home.

I really cant think of anything (and I'm a writer...), sorry....
