Malaysian government wants to ban fast food ads. What is your view?

NGOs argue that banning fast food ads will encourage a healthier lifestyle among Malaysians. They argue that fast food ads are more dangerous than cigarettes as they reach a much wider audience, most worrying influence? Young children.

Asian nations, particularly with Confucian backgrounds, tend to accept censorship and restrictions in the eye of the public good. It's really a cultural thing, and if censorship is already bound to run rampant, it's best that it's kept to something that could potentially do some good.

Still, I'd rather see less censorship and more personal responsibility held. To some extent, human nature just doesn't mesh with the raw levels of responsibility required of people, which is quite a pity.

I don't like it at all. Sadly, I have to wonder if perhaps it really is necessary.
Reply:that's a really good idea. even if they don't ban them at least don't make them sound all healthy like eating a salad at a fast food restaurant is good for you..
Reply:I think many people would agree that people have to watch their governments' powers of banning and restricting freedoms. Nonetheless, there are no valid arguments to support the freedoms of companies who poison people. Fast food is essentially garbage with a very high poison-to-nutritio ratio. Only tobacco is worse for you.
Reply:Jeez, That sound like what the Socialist pigs want to do in the U.S.!!!!
Reply:Gawd.. i wish america was smart enough to do this too...meanwhile millions of people are dying of coronary disease every day. oh but.. wait! it makes the corporations money!! can't chop down the money tree now can we?!

oh and a response to an earlier comment:

if by socialist you mean "i live a little longer cos my effing arteries aren't clogged with cholesterol and fast food GMO monster garbage meals" then i'll wave my red flag boldly. Unless you're talkin bout the Engels form of socialism.. Cos there's a huge difference between that and COMMUNISM. So don't go on trying to hunt me down McCarthy.
Reply:not a bad idea. in the US non smokers now outnumber smokers and they havent had smoking ads in forever. and they banned cartoon characters from cigarettes too, like Joe Camel.
Reply:I love seeing the good idea responses. Instead of attempting to find ways to show you are better than others how about getting out of my life. I make my choices based on my freedoms. If I die an unhealthy death that's my fault. Show your true colors and try to make it illegal if its so bad for us. You didn't have the juice to outlaw smoking so you attempt to tax it out of existence now you are going after foods you consider unhealthy. Believe it or nor my Grandfather lived to be 86 (died of complications from being thrown from a horse) and he ate bacon at least twice a day forever. If I choose not to do something legal in moderation so what? If I choose to do it in moderation its my choice, not because the government made it illegal to advertise. Its funny how its ok to infringe on our freedoms when its a cause you agree with.

Sorry, I know you said Malaysia, but the food Nazis here in th eUS drive me nuts.
Reply:GOOD. That stuff is fatening and bad for you anyways.
