Can anyone recommended some scary movies for young children, around six to eight years old?

They like reading the Goosebumps books, and other scary children's stories, but most scary movies seem to have blood and gore intended for older audiences.

Sheltering children from the reality of what is out there is actually more damaging then letting them watch. They're less apt to know how to take it when they're older. But watch the raitings.

If you really want some good ones for kids, consider letting them watch some of the classics such as the original Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf-Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon. They are pretty tame.
Reply:Casper, Ghost Dad, and Hocus Pocus

Reply:All of the 'Harry Potter movies', They even capture my interest!! And have lots of scary parts in the movies!!
Reply:Someone recommended "Monster House" - my wife took our 11, 9 and 6 year-old girls to see it, and left the theatre. It was way too violent and disturbing for our kids.

"Scary movies" for little kids is sort of an oxymoron. I understand your children may be different from mine, but I personally feel it's not something that's appropriate for small children. Still, Disney's "The Haunted Mansion" was mentioned, and that's pretty silly-scary, and pretty much okay, as I recall. Another good one for that age range would be the "Casper" series ("Casper and Wendy" even has perennial kids favorite Hillary Duff). My kids generally liked "Zathura," though my younger ones found it a bit intense. The Harry Potter movies are okay, with the exception of the latest ("Goblet of Fire") due to its intensity.

Understand that my wife and I are "scary" film junkies, I even more than her. We own the entire "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" series on DVD, and I count a number of good scary films as some of my favorites ("Alien," "Aliens," the "Evil Dead" series, etc.) We also love the Harry Potter series (both the books and movies - we own all of both the DVDs and the books). We just tend to believe that this kind of stuff isn't for our own kids. Again, you know your kids better than I would. Our best friends' sons are about the same age as our girls, and they ate up "Monster House" (and they allow them to selectively watch "Buffy" and "Angel" episodes as well). I hope my recommendations work for you. :o)

Reply:May be you do not like my answer but if you really love kids don't let them watch scary movies or read such stories because it left bad impact on their mind. Rather let them watch comedy movies or read jokes etc.

If you do not believe me ask a child specialist and you will get the answer after paying fee.

Try the Neverending Story... but make sure you just buy the first movie... the other ones are pretty bad. Also, there is Labyrinth, with young Jennifer Connely and David Bowe... which was really good too... both very good movies for kids.
