I need a good book.?

I want a good book to read at night when I come home from work.

I want something that really takes a hold of you and won't let go until you finish the whole thing.

My favorite book is the Thief Lord. I know that book was meant for a younger audience, but it really grabbed a hold of me.

So I want something maybe like that? And I definetely prefer an Italy setting, but this is definetely not a must.

I just need a good book.

Suggestions?

I need a good book.?
You might try The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. I read the entire book on a flight from New Jersey to Florida. Could not put it down!!!
Reply:Yes, "The Thief Lord" is a great book ... a very engaging story! Have you tried any other books written by Cornelia Funke? You might enjoy "Inkheart" although I didn't like it quite as much as "Thief Lord".

If you liked the Italian setting, I'd recommend the "Stravaganza" series by Mary Hoffman, starting with: "City of Masks"

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stravaganza-City...

Although my personal favourite in this series was part two, "City of Stars".

If you don't mind a change of setting, (Scotland), then I'd recommend my favourite recent book, "Justin Thyme". It's aimed at a similar audience to all the above, but has a plot that outshines everything I've read, and a host of fantastically eccentric characters. Brilliant!

Reply:A really good book that i read thats find of the same was "THE GIVER". I love that book. so much the went out the the other two book that goes with the story.
Reply:One of my favorite books is The Lovely Bones. It is a definite page-turner.
Reply:Heres a list of my favorite books

MEMIORS OF A GEISHA - unbelievably good..couldnt put it down..i loved it so much!!

Reply:The Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan is my formost recomondation. though its a fantasy genre type book, it is invigerating none the less. the kind of book that takes you in the story. though the first book of the series the eye of the world takes a little to get interesting, it is still the start of a great story. and another good thing is the story keeps getting better and as well as many developments that make the the story fuller and more alive. to explain more, there is a large array of suspence action drama romance and comedy writen in such a unque way that no matter what your dislikes are youll still enjoy its story very much
Reply:Tuesdays with Morrie is a great book by Mitch Album. It's short, but definately a book everyone should read. I couldn't put it down. Finished the whole thing in one sitting.
Reply:I don't know how old you are, that would make it easier.

Someone mentioned Alice Siebold's book, "Bones". That was excellent. I started reading it and couldn't put it down. I have her book, "Lucky" now. She is great.

I love Joy Fielding. She writes about every day people. That is the kind of book I enjoy the most. Mitch Albom is still great. John Grisham is good. Anne Rivers Siddons is excellent.

These are all "cannot put down books". I am not familiar with "The Thief Lord". And I don't care where a book takes place so you probably wouldn't like any of the books I have mentioned. As I said, it really depends on your age...................Good Reading to you !!
Reply:It is hard to predict which authors might captivate you or not, but John Grisham has always had this effect on me. I pick up one of his books and can hardly put it down until I have finished it. Also, they are an easy read.

I would also recommend James Grippando, Arthur Hailey, and W.E.B. Griffin. I will say that Griffin and another author (Tom Clancy) are also good if you are into military stuff, mystery, intrigue, stuff about foreign spies. etc. If those themes don't interest you, Griffin and Clancy might not be good choices.
Reply:I'd check out anything by Christopher Moore. He's quite funny. I also like Steve Berry (similar to Dan Brown).
Reply:You can try:

The White Castle OR

My name is Red from Orhan Pamuk

Alchemist or the Zahir from Paulo Coelho

Samarkand from Amin Maalouf
Reply:Watchers by Dean Koontz

Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd

City of Ember and its two sequels

Christopher Moore books

Mercedes Lackey books

Wilbur Smith books

Gail Tsukiyama books

Mark Dunn books

Jonathan Carroll books

Lillian Jackson Braun Cat Who books
Reply:I suggest Congo by Michael Crichton. It was definitely the most suspenseful book I have ever read and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well.
Reply:The Forgotten Door, by Alexander Key. It's a bit outdated, but you'll like it.
Reply:If you like a good mystery, "Angel and Demons" by Dan Brown is a good book. It's long but it's fast pace action. It takes place in Vatican City and around Rome. Learning about the history and the architecture of the Vatican and Rome is pretty cool.

Check it out.
Reply:Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Shattered Glass by Elaine Bergstrom

Snowcrach by Neal Stephenson

Guaranteed you won't be able to put any of those down.
Reply:I really liked the Dresden Files novels by Jim Butcher. Robin Hobb's novels are very good also.
Reply:If you need something interesting and adventurous, I recommend The Lord of the Rings or The da Vinci Code (and other books by Dan Brown), or Harry Potter :) But, if you have higher standards and want something to enrich your spirit, you should read Kahlil Gibran or Marcel Proust (my favorite authors).
Reply:I love Les Miserables.

The story is sad but very strong. It grabs hold of your heart, and you can relate, hate, and feel for the characters. It does not take take place in Italy, but France. That's close though!

I began reading it and could not put it down. I highly recommend this book.
Reply:The Kite Runner

The Glace Palace

The Alchemist

The Afghan
