Why does BHO repeat the lie about "more young black men in prison than college" even though WA Post told him?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...

Obama has repeated this false claim to predominantly African American audiences, even after The Washington Post pointed out the mistake to his campaign. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, 106,000 African American men ages 18 to 24 were in federal or state prisons at the end of 2005. An additional 87,000 were temporarily held in local jails in mid-2006. According to 2005 census data, 530,000 African American men in this age group were in college.

Why does BHO repeat the lie about "more young black men in prison than college" even though WA Post told him?
Obviously, that was what Obama believed to be true, so he stated it as fact. He believed it so much that he didn't see any point in verifying it by checking out the REAL facts.

Like lots of YA Questioners/Answerers do :p

@Italienne: The link that YOU posted is comparing living in college dorms to living in prisons. It is NOT camparing being IN college to being in prison.

From YOUR link:

"The numbers, driven by men, do not include college students who live off campus. Previously released census data show that black and Hispanic college students commuters and those in dorms far outnumber black and Hispanic prison inmates.

Nevertheless, civil rights advocates said it is startling that blacks and Hispanics are more likely to live in prison cells than in college dorms."

Kudos to you for searching for the truth...But, you kinda have to READ it, too :)
Reply:The truth is what you believe, not what is fact. Obama's audience will believe him, that's all that matters. They won't believe you or I because we don't support Obama.
Reply:so, you're nitpicking on numbers?

the fact that 106,000 african american men ages 18-24 in jail with an additional 87,000 held in jail are staggering numbers.

and the 530,000 census data is from 2005. what about 2006? 2007? and the first two months of 2008?

the point obama was making is there are too many young black males in jail and something needs to be done about it.
Reply:Yeah Darrin, something needs to be done about it. Like maybe getting these men to not commit the crimes they're getting arrested for in the first place. That might be a good start.
Reply:Because it sounds like a good campaign slogan for the black vote. I know I didn't put them in there. How did they get there? Are they all innocent victims? Maybe instead of talking the talk, he could have stayed in Illinois and taught them respect for themself and others.

Your article is right, he said in not sleeping in.
Reply:He can't afford to look like he is wrong even though he is.
Reply:Obama says whatever will bring him more votes.
Reply:Well this is typical of him to appeal to the mass he preaches too.

I do not believe anything that comes out of his mouth and hopefully Americans who follow him will see he is only out for votes and power!! He never can get his facts straight now can he??
Reply:Well if they would stop glorifying gangsta attitude as cool and shooting one another.

Blaming someone else for you own actions is the problem
Reply:Why don't you ask him?

Jeez, I'm so sick of all the Obama haters. I'll say it again:

If you hate the guy, DON'T FRIGGIN VOTE FOR HIM.
Reply:The problem is not who said what. The problem is why are all these young men in jail? The answer has nothing to do with the government, who is president, or racism. What the hell is the president going to do stop them from going to jail. You stop them from going to jail by raising better human being's who don't commit the crimes. This is done with better and more responsible parenting and leadership in the black community. As long as racist bastards like Jackson,Sharpton, and Farrakhan are the people they look up to and respect this will never change.
Reply:I guess it just depends on who you cite.

Reply:Sooooo, you are saying that 106,000 in jail isn't enough???

I don't get it.
