Today's Horror Films?

Let's try it here....

Is ANYthing even truly scary anymore?

Today's younger audiences have been exposed to stuff that would've been banned 30 years ago. So most are totally desensitized to fright on film.

So what's shocking %26amp; scary to them??

The last original appraoch to horror I've seen in recent years was 'Blair Witch'.

Big budget horror (along w/ big names, %26amp; an MTV soundtrack w/ the hottest new artists) just doesn't add up to scary in my book...

The problem to me- it's all about gore now. Anyone can do that. Gore doesn't necessarily = scary.

No one seems to be writing %26amp; producing true horror anymore.

Today's Horror Films?
Right on Fonzie! These aren't true horror movies in a sense, they are shock factor films.
Reply:You are correct...You know what I miss...Clive Barker's stuff....is he alive???
Reply:The good ole days when Cujo scared the crap out of you. You were afraid to go in the ocean because of Jaws. Yeah, I know what you mean. They don't make them now like they did then. Good times.
Reply:That is a really valid point! it is so hard to find anything that willl truly frighten us!
Reply:I think it's more than just what Hollywood is producing now compared to what they produced thirty years ago. I remember being scared by gory horror films with extra dumb plots - like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, The Evil Dead, etc. Today though, those movies don't scare me at all. I think the older we get, the harder it is to shock us so we start to expect more than just gore - we start to expect a decent plot to go along with it. We certainly don't want to sit in a two-hour long movie just to see the same blood and guts slasher. Today's generation will be noticing the same thing about the next generation that we're noticing now.

Although, I have to admit, we did have some pretty good horror movies years ago - The Exorcist, Alien, Jaws, The Shining, etc. But even back then, a good horror movie was rare. It just seems like there were more good ones because we have a bigger time window to look back through. But when you actually count them, the stupid gory b-movies far outnumbered the really decent ones even thirty years ago. And they weren't all that different from the ones now - they're the same stupid gore. And we can still predict who's going to get killed first - lol.
