Do yo have a suggestion for a lengthy anime with a good story and for older audience?

I am an avid anime fan (OTAKU!) My preference is for anime with good storyline. I liked Maison Ikkoku, Monster, Death Note, Fushigi Yugi, Samurai Champloo, Bleach (though I had to fast forward whene there is lenghty (and boring) fight sequence. Though, I did not like Cawboy Beepop that much!

Could you recommend an anime series (preferably a lenghty one) for older audience that has a gripping and strong storyline. But at the same time it should not be overly slow (i.e. boring). I do not mind if it is a fantasy, comedy, psychological, or drama.

In summary, I am looking for an anime with the following criteria:

1. For older audience (college and above), i.e. requers thinking, analysis, understanding, concentration, that younger audience would not appreciate.

2. NOT hentai, mature, or with excessive fan service

3. Based on a story (i.e., has a logical beginning and ending)

4. Lenghty (preferably %26gt; 24 episodes)

5. Fast paced (so you do not have to fast forward all the time)

Do yo have a suggestion for a lengthy anime with a good story and for older audience?
*Plasma High 5's the Otaku, wasup homeboy/girl? ;p

Lengthy story driven Anime that might appeal to an older audience w/o any slowing down in appeal?

Hajime no Ippo: 75 eps +2 movies - I have to admit, that it's not as story-dramatic as GTO or Planetes, but Ippo's long %26amp; full of the best fully drawn out action scenes in the business. None of that thousands of DBZ punches going in a blur. Ippo has every punch fully animated, so viewers can enjoy it from start to finish as a fist hits a face.

*Planetes: 26 eps, Slice of Life, that will strike close to the heart for many older viewers. It explores life's purpose, social networks, %26amp; "working" to get by.

*Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: 27 eps, "Manliness" %26amp; adrenaline to the core. The art, music, %26amp; dialogue oozes "masculinity" but not in a super-violent way like Fist of the North Star.

Welcome to the NHK: - 24 eps, Not one of my favorites (as the characters were simply too self-destructive), but loved by many who can take its emotions %26amp; messages.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Samurai 7

Jigoku Shoujo

[Edit] Thumbs up for JeremyC's picks. Mushishi %26amp; Kino's Travels do have story, %26amp; a nice mellow pace. But it's that mellow pace that sometimes detracts those who have ADD (attention deficit disorder). But if you want a series to watch just to relax %26amp; right before bed, Mushishi is what you want.
